A characteristic feature of French musical culture was a passion for ideas, Wagner, spoken in a number of aesthetic works. Debussy, highly appreciated the genius of Wagner in his opera sought to create a type of musical drama, essentially the opposite of Wagner's music drama, but meeting the French national character.
These are basically some of the contradictions of French music and social life of the second half of XIX century.
The best works by Saint-Saens, started in the 70s and 80s, rightfully belong to the high achievements of the French classical music heritage. These include above all the opera "Samson and Delilah" continues to this day (especially the three arias Delilah) its popularity, the symphonic poem "Danse death", "Phaeton", "Distaff Omfaly", the Second and Fourth Piano Concertos, Cello Concerto and some other works. All of them are purely French melodic elegance and clarity of form, subtle harmonic taste, a sense of artistic action, beautiful, and transparent orchestration.
Significant figure in instrumental music in France 70-80s of the last century is Cesar Franck - (1822-1890). Belgian-born, Frank was born in Liege, a musical education in Paris, where he studied piano playing and play the organ at F. Benoit. After working as an organist in churches in Paris, in 1872 Frank went to the post of professor class organ at the Paris Conservatory. Organ Class Frank was the creative center around which rallied the young, thirsting new French musicians - composers, conductors, teachers, artists. Thus, Frank became the head of a young French school, whose representatives were not only direct his students, such as d'Indy, Chausson, du Parc, but which was joined by musicians, who studied it did not. |
